The Parker Homestead, one of the oldest homes in America, will host an Open House on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Events planned for Sunday are:

  • Guided tours of the National Register of Historic Places the Parker Homestead home and three newly refurbished barns
  • Gift Shop
  • Information about plans for 2017
  • Live holiday music & light refreshments.
  • Display of Parkers’ collection of vintage Christmas greeting cards
  • Holiday decorated tree by the students of Point Road School
  • Displays of vintage household, farm and recreational items including an antique restored iceboat, “Wannatoe” built by Hal Parker.

About Parker Homestead-1665

In 1665, brothers Peter and Joseph Parker arrived in our area with the first European settlers to claim their father’s property, which was part of a King’s Land Grant. Eight generations and 330 years later, Julia Parker deeded The Parker Homestead to the people of Little Silver. Her intent was that it be preserved forever as a living historic and educational site, especially focused on providing future generations with pride in their history and knowledge of the past. The Homestead is on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places.

The barn and home renovations are the result of the combined efforts of the Borough of Little Silver and The Parker Homestead-1665 – a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that encourages and guides the restoration and use of The Parker Homestead. The borough and non-profit organization have worked closely together since the property was first deeded to the borough in creating the historic preservation of the site.
