The Fifth Annual Chili and Cornbread Cook-off is scheduled to take place on February 25, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Middletown United Methodist Church, located at 924 Middletown-Lincroft Road in Middletown. Anyone interested in attending or submitting an entry of chili, cornbread or both should email Linda Bardell at fdjjmom@gmail.com.
The categories on which the chili will be judged are:
- People’s Choice
- Most Flavorful
- Hottest
- Most Unique
- Most Traditional
The cornbread categories will not only include the People’s Choice, Most Unique and Most Flavorful, but also Best Gluten Free. Certificates of appreciation and achievement will be awarded by the judges. Each year the church takes this opportunity to recognize a member of the community to be honored and thanked for their commitment to helping others. Pastor of the church, Derrick Doherty, said,
“Last year we thanked those at Nut Swamp Elementary School for welcoming our congregation to worship there while our new church was under construction over 50 years ago. This year we will again highlight someone or group for their outstanding service to others. All are welcome, so come to the event and find out who is honored this year!”
