The Colts Neck Community Band (CNCB) is a group of skilled musicians whose primary goal is to come together in preparing and performing high quality music for the community. After a successful performance at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan last November, CNCB is poised to continue its tradition of offering to its audience an exciting and varied concert program.  The band will present three performances for its spring 2018 concert series: Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Colts Neck High School, Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Park in Lincroft, and Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Colts Neck Township Independence Day celebration at Bucks Mill Park.

As well as its music director Kelly Tyma and its conductors Mel Chayette, Eric Robertshaw, and Don Swinchoski, the Colts Neck Community Band welcomes to the podium David Crosby as a conductor for the spring 2018 concert series.  Under this skilled leadership team the band will perform a varied assortment of classical, modern, and popular selections. Three especially thrilling and passionate pieces included this spring will be Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez, Prairie Dances by David Holsinger, and Ignition by Todd Stalter.  Ferde Grofé’s Over There Fantasie will serve as a rousing yet respectful observance of the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI while Percy Grainger’s Australian Up-Country Tune will enhance the program with its romantic beauty.  Vaclav Nelhybel’s Symphonic Movement, a band literature standard, will provide the audience a sampling of 20th century classical music.  Not all of the band’s spring selections will be serious, however; the audience is sure to be amused by Leroy Anderson’s The Typewriter, featuring a typewriter as a solo instrument, and a farcical Salute to Spike Jones.  CNCB will also indulge fans of theater and movies with the exuberant Symphonic Dances from Fiddler on the Roof by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick and the ever-popular Raiders March by John Williams.

The Colts Neck Community Band is a volunteer organization committed to bringing music alive for its audience in central New Jersey.  This ensemble consists of musicians spanning in age from teenagers to senior citizens whose common thread is dedication to the experience of making and sharing music.  The band was founded by the late Richard Frankle, a music educator in Colts Neck.  In its sixteenth season, the Colts Neck Community Band continues in its mission to uphold the high standards set by Mr. Frankle.

All CNCB performances are free to the public; donations are always appreciated. Learn more about the Colts Neck Community Band by visiting coltsneckband.org.
