Middletown resident 9-year-old Natalie Gorsegner was diagnosed with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia in August of 2012. She underwent over two years of aggressive chemotherapy and has been in remission since November of 2014.
While the Gorsegner’s are grateful for their daughter’s survival, they know all too well that many families do not share their same good fortune as childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for our kids here in the United States and unfortunately funding for childhood cancer research is extremely limited (in over 25 years only three new drugs have been developed for any type of childhood cancer)! Inspired by their own daughter and the thousands of other fighters, the family launched their grassroots foundation, Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer.
With that said, the Middletown Fire Department has whole-heartedly collaborated with Infinite Love on the 3rd Annual Shave a Hero/Save a Hero, to be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, a beautiful, family-friendly fundraising event where ANYONE can “walk-in” to have their head shaved (including kids) OR new this year have their ponytails cut and hair styled. While many of the ‘shavees’ will be Firefighters and anyone else who wants to “walk-in,” a few of the Middletown Public School Principals will be participating by shaving again this year to include for the first time, Superintendent Dr. William O. George III.
But you do NOT have to shave your head to join in on the fun! Additionally, this public, family event will have food, drinks, games, music, face painting, a balloon artist and more…the PERFECT way to spend an afternoon with your family while giving back and having FUN!
Food/Beverage bands will be $20/person, Food/Water bands will be $10/person and Kids 12-years old and under eat for FREE (no advance sales)! Any shavee who raises/donates $20 or more will automatically receive one food/beverage band.
Infinite Love is 100% volunteer based and since April of 2013 has raised over $1,000,000 for childhood cancer research (see their website for details). In addition to research, Infinite Love helps childhood cancer families both emotionally and financially however, none of this would be possible without the incredible support and loyalty from our individual, business and group donors.
